- A:Remove the axleshaft as described in the preceding. Pry the old oil seal out of the end of the axle housing, using a seal removal tool or the inner end of the axleshaft itself as a lever. Use a seal removal tool to remove the old seal from the axle housing. If a seal removal tool isn't available, a prybar or even the end of the axle can be used to pop the seal out of the housing. Using a seal driver or a large socket, tap the seal into position so that the lips are facing in and the metal face is visible from the end of the axle housing. Using a seal driver to install the new axleshaft oil seal. When correctly installed, the face of the oil seal should be flush with the end of the axle housing.
