Q:
How to remove and install rear hub and bearing assembly on Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
A:
Before disassembling 2010 and earlier all-wheel drive models, measure from the center of the rear hub to the lower edge of the bodywork at the top of the wheel opening with the vehicle's full weight on the ground to establish the normal ride height. Begin removal by loosening rear wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle, and securing it on jack stands. Remove the wheel, brake caliper (keeping the brake line attached), brake disc, brake hose bracket, and, for all-wheel drive models, the driveaxle/hub nut(s) and wheel speed sensor. For 2010 and earlier models, separate the upper arm from the wheel knuckle, place a floor jack under the lower arm, remove the lower shock absorber bolt, and detach the upper stabilizer bar link and outboard toe link. Pull the drive axle out and secure it. On front-wheel-drive models, remove the wheel speed sensor and brake hose bracket. Finally, remove the wheel bearing and hub assembly bolts. For 2011 and later models, continue by removing the wheel bearing and hub assembly bolts and, for all-wheel drive models, simultaneously pushing the drive axle from the hub with a suitable puller. Moving to installation, for 2010 and earlier models, install the wheel hub/bearing assembly onto the wheel knuckle, place the drive axle back through the knuckle into the hub, and loosely install new bolts and nuts into the lower arm, toe link, and lower shock mount. Raise the suspension with the floor jack if needed to align and install the upper arm bolt. Adjust the jack height to achieve the initial ride height measurement and torque the upper arm nut. Tighten the lower arm bolt, toe link bolt, and shock absorber lower nut to their specified torque. Reattach the stabilizer bar link and tighten the nut. Install the brake hose bracket, wheel speed sensor, brake disc, and brake caliper assembly. For all-wheel-drive models, secure the drive axle using the old wheel hub nut, then replace with new nuts and torque to specification. For 2011 and later models, install the wheel hub/bearing assembly onto the rear knuckle, guiding the drive axle into the splines for all-wheel drive models. Tighten the hub assembly-to-rear knuckle bolts to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal process. Tighten brake fasteners, and for all-wheel-drive models, tighten the drive axle/hub nut(s). Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts. Note the importance of timely tightening of wheel hub nuts due to the one-use locking chemical.
