Q:
How to remove and install Distributor on Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer
A:
Test procedures for the TFI-IV Ignition system vary depending on the model year. For 1985-87 models, start by turning the ignition switch off, removing the coil wire, and grounding it. Then, touch the negative lead of a volt/ohmmeter to the distributor base and disconnect the pin-in-line connector near the distributor. Attach the positive lead of the volt/ohmmeter to the TFI module side of the connector, turn the ignition switch on, and bump the starter to measure voltage levels with the engine stationary. If it's lower, replace the stator assembly. For 1988 models, follow similar steps but with adjustments to voltage thresholds. If the highest reading surpasses 70% of battery voltage, otherwise, replace the stator assembly. If the lowest value is greater than 0.5 volts, inspect the stator and TFI terminals. In 1989-90 models, use a special Rotunda TFI module tester tool, ensuring the transmission shift lever is in PARK (AT) or NEUTRAL (MT) and the wheels are blocked. Disconnect the harness connector from the TFI module and connect the tester tool. Proceed with further steps as outlined. Removal and installation involve rotating the engine to TDC, disconnecting the negative battery cable, and removing the distributor assembly carefully, ensuring the engine isn't rotated during removal. Installation includes aligning the distributor properly and checking initial timing before finalizing the installation.
