Once every 3,000 miles, or every three months, the hinges and latch assemblies on the doors, hood and trunk (or liftgate) should be given a few drops of light oil or lock lubricant. The door latch strikers should also be lubricated with a thin coat of grease to reduce wear and ensure free movement. Lubricate the door and trunk (or liftgate) locks with spray-on graphite lubricant.

When working on the removal and replacement of door handles and door latch assemblies, exercise caution, and wear gloves to protect against sharp metal edges. For 2007 and earlier models, start by raising the window and removing the door trim panel and watershield. Inside the door, remove the door latch assembly screw and the door handle cover from the exterior of the door. Carefully slide the door handle toward the rear of the vehicle, remove the rubber insulators, and release the clip to position the interior door handle aside. Then, remove the door latch screws and disconnect the door latch electrical connector. Slide the door latch remote control assembly toward the front of the vehicle, remove the anti-theft guard, and disconnect the exterior door handle actuating rod. The installation process is the reverse of removal. For rear handles and door latch assembly, additionally, remove the electrical connector from the rear door latch, the door glass top run bolts, and separate the door glass top run from the door. Remove the door handle screws from inside the door panel, remove the cover from the outside of the door, and carefully slide the door handle toward the rear of the vehicle. Inside the door panel, remove the screw and loosen the remote control assembly. Disconnect the door handle actuating rod, remove the door latch screws, and remove the rear door latch. Release the cable conduit and disconnect the interior door handle cable. Remove the rear door handle assembly by prying the door handle clips and separating the door handle from the door. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For 2008 and later models, the process differs slightly, with additional steps for door handles, front door latch, lock cylinder, and rear door latch, but the fundamental caution and attention to detail remain essential throughout the procedure.
