For 1988 and 1989 models, the front cable can be replaced by raising the vehicle and supporting it on jackstands, releasing the parking brake and loosening the adjusting nut at the adjuster, disconnecting the cable from the adjuster bracket, removing the clip retaining the cable to the body, disconnecting the cable from the pedal assembly inside the vehicle, and finally removing the cable down through the floorpan. To install, the cable should be inserted through the floorpan holes and attached to the control assembly inside the vehicle, ensuring the grommet is properly seated. From underneath the vehicle, fasten the cable to the adjuster bracket. The intermediate cable can be removed by taking off the cable adjusting nut from under the vehicle, disconnecting the intermediate cable ends at the left rear and the transverse cable, removing the cable and adjuster bracket assembly while keeping track of the order of the cotter pin, washer, and spring, and then installing the equalizer assembly onto the pin and connecting the cable ends before reinstalling the adjusting nut. For the transverse cable, the cable adjusting nut should be removed first, followed by disconnecting the cable ends at the right rear of the transverse cable and the intermediate cable. Any retaining clips or brackets should be removed, and the cable can be taken out. Reinstall the retaining clips or brackets holding the cable to the body, reconnect the cable ends, and reinstall the adjusting nut.For 1990 and later models, the front cable is challenging to replace due to its connection to the parking brake mechanism under the dash, making it necessary to fabricate a special tool for disconnection. It's recommended to have a professional with the right tools and expertise replace it if needed. The removal and replacement procedure for the intermediate and rear cables involve ensuring the parking brake is released, raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it on jackstands, disconnecting the rear cable (by removing the brake drum and disassembling the brake on models with rear drum brakes or following a specific procedure on models with rear disc brakes), disconnecting the left rear cable from the intermediate cable, and disconnecting the right rear cable from the intermediate cable. If you need to replace the intermediate cable, disconnect its front end from the connector at the rear end of the front cable. During reattachment, ensure that the left rear cable is on top and attached to the forward end of the cable connector, while the right rear cable should be under the left rear cable and attached to the rear end of the connector.

For the transverse cable, remove the cable adjusting nut first, followed by disconnecting the cable ends at the right rear of the transverse cable and the intermediate cable. Remove any retaining clips or brackets, take out the cable, reinstall the retaining clips or brackets holding the cable to the body, reconnect the cable ends, and reinstall the adjusting nut.
