Ford Explorer Accelerator Cable Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Accelerator Cable on Ford Explorer?
A: Take off the protective shield on the Throttle Body. On 4.0L SOHC engines, unscrew the screws and accelerator cable splash shield. For 5.0L engines, remove the bolt and accelerator cable splash shield. Separate the accelerator cable from the throttle lever. For 4.0L SOHC engines, rotate the accelerator cable until it aligns with a slot on the throttle lever and then slide it out of its bracket. Unclip the accelerator cable from the throttle lever on 4.0L pushrod and 5.0L engines, separate the cables from cable bracket, remove the cable retaining bolt, and separate the accelerator cable from the cable bracket. Squeeze pliers to release it from the bracket on 2001 and later models. Pull through the slot in pedal arm end of cable from inside engine compartment firewall. Remove any brackets or clips holding down accelerator cables. From inside the engine compartment firewall pull back through to engine side.
